The mission of Senior Dog Haven & Hospice is to rescue and re-home senior dogs (age 7 and older) and to offer hospice care to rescued senior dogs in our program.
We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that incorporated in June 2012. SDH&H is an all volunteer foster based organization located in Delaware. Our goal is to be there for the older dogs who have been abandoned at a time in their life when their need for comfort, companionship and care is at it’s highest.
Greta had a very big surgical day at the vet. Our vet and her team wanted to get as much done as possible so that we wouldn’t have to put this gal under anesthesia again. She had a spay, mammary tumors removed, a dental with mouth tumors removed for biopsy, and her left eye removed. Greta is a TROOPER and is acting like nothing even happened! She has a wonderful appetite, slept well last night, and is back to being her foster mom’s shadow. Paws crossed that all biopsies are benign! She will be on pain meds and antibiotics till stitches are removed. We love you, Greta! Only good days ahead! ... See MoreSee Less
Thank you to everyone who helped us with a very successful Giving Tuesday. Now time to get back to business! Introducing Nina! This little girl absolutely took our breath away. She came into the shelter as a cruelty case and her owner will face charges for cruelty and neglect. She is estimated to be about 15 years old. She is blind, deaf, emaciated and has many physical ailments. Despite that she is sweet and all she wants to do is cuddle and be in your arms. Do we even deserve dogs?! We want to extend a huge thank you to Dr. Meg at East Bradford Veterinary Hospital for dropping literally everyrhing to stabilize this girl with some much needed fluids. We are awaiting the results of her bloodwork and her radiology report. She is being hand fed and we already are starting to see an enormous difference. We have no idea what her future looks like but we do know that we will shower her with love every day she has left. More to come soon. ♥️ ... See MoreSee Less
It’s Giving Tuesday. We have spent 24 hours sharing how our supporters have made a difference in the lives of so many senior dogs whose lives were turned upside down. Thank you for going on this journey with us and reading about some of the dogs who touched our lives this year. This Giving Tuesday, we invite you to help us change the world for more old dogs with very uncertain futures. You can make their dream of a home filled with love, safety and comfort a reality. It is not too late to donate, 5 more minutes till midnight!

We did it!!!!!! And guess what? Our match donors were so excited we hit our goal that they went ahead and gave a 2 to 1 match for the extra $700! That means we raised $77,100 for senior dogs!!!!!!!! 🎉 🎊
We expect this number to go up in the next few days as we get an official donation report and receive some checks in the mail. We will update with an official total in the next few days.
It’s Giving Tuesday. We’d like to tell you how we are transforming lives. Once upon a time, a stray lab-mix found himself at the shelter. He was so malnourished that his spine stuck out and you could see all of his ribs. His teeth were badly damaged and he sat alone in a cage for weeks until our group was contacted. That is how Logan’s story begins, but it is not how we allowed it to end. Logan was rescued and brought into a loving foster home. He was so weak his back legs wouldn’t work properly, and sleeping in a soft, warm bed became his priority. Our vet revealed extra evidence of long-term neglect which led to Logan’s hospitalization. After showing some improvements, he was able to go back to his foster home for weeks of subcutaneous fluid hydration therapy as well as medications and a special diet to encourage his appetite. He made doggie friends, had a yard to sniff around, and all the cuddles he could ever want. For five beautiful weeks Logan knew what true love looked like. Unfortunately the years of neglect caught up to him and he peacefully passed away looking into the eyes of someone who loved him. This Giving Tuesday, help us give more dogs like Logan a peaceful ever after. The first $25,000 in donations will be matched 2 to 1. Logan's #TripleYourImpact donation match was made by East Bradford Veterinary Hospital. #GivingTuesday... See MoreSee Less
