The mission of Senior Dog Haven & Hospice is to rescue and re-home senior dogs (age 7 and older) and to offer hospice care to rescued senior dogs in our program.
We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that incorporated in June 2012. SDH&H is an all volunteer foster based organization located in Delaware. Our goal is to be there for the older dogs who have been abandoned at a time in their life when their need for comfort, companionship and care is at it’s highest.
What a difference a day makes!❤️ We have washed away the past , and can’t wait to create your new, love filled future! Luna is a DIFFERENT dog out of the shelter. Although we are heartbroken for all those that remain, her time has come…. Your family is out there Luna, and we can not to wait to unite you with them! ❤️ ... See MoreSee Less
We don’t deserve them, not their trust, loyalty or companionship. Papaya came to us as a stray from a city shelter that is so overwhelmed, they can barely keep them alive past their stray hold. This is NOT the shelters fault, they are constantly bombarded with intakes from ‘dumped’ strays, unwanted owner surrenders, and people that refuse to medically treat their ‘pets’.
Papaya has a urinary tract infection, eye infection, a severe flea infestation, a large ear hematoma along with bilateral ear infections, a respiratory infection, is moderately underweight, and has evidence of way too many litters. And yet within 5 minutes of meeting her foster she was nothing but licks and tail wags! We don’t deserve you, but Papaya, we are going to make this up to you, we are going to be your voice! Welcome to the Senior Dog Haven Family, Papaya, we love you already. ❤️ ... See MoreSee Less

Beautifully written. Sadly all too true. Thank you for scooping this gal. She is one of the lucky ones. Lucky to find a way out and a chance at a wonderful healthy last chapter in a loving home. 💗💗💗💗💗
She is a sweetheart
Thank you so much for saving her🥰
Thank you for every life you save. All of these shelters are so overwhelmed with the number of strays and returns. It is heartbreaking that there is not space or resources to take care of all of these dogs placed in a situation that is totally out of their control😥😥😥

Phhewww! Glad that’s over with! What a day for our superstar Callie! Mammary tumors removed, large bilateral hernias repaired, spay and a dental to top it all off! We are so fortunate to have such wonderful veterinary care from the staff at East Bradford Veterinary Hospital! So many of our seniors require extensive surgeries, at baseline -just to get them on the road to recovery. Thank you for the compassionate, caring , and experienced help you so often provide for our SDHH pups! ❤️ ... See MoreSee Less
Agreed. EBV is awesome. They are able to avoid multiple procedure visits and limit anesthetic time!! This is so important for the seniors 🥰. Callie underwent one stressful day, but she is already on the road to recovery. Wagging her tail, sleeping well, and working on getting her appetite back.
Get well soon Callie!

We recently heard from Oscar’s family who adopted him in June: “We wanted you to know Oscar is doing great! He knew his name so well that we kept it and formally named him “Oscar Wilde”. Everyone loves the name. He has slipped right into our life together as if he’s always been here and has quickly became beloved both by us and all who meet him. He is just a joy to have and we are forever grateful to SDHH for rescuing him.” 😍 ... See MoreSee Less
Hospice foster Mackenzie loves hanging out with her ADOPTABLE foster sister, Vera (the tan and white beauty)!
Mackenzie’s doing fairly well. Her seizures are closely monitored by her foster family and the vet. She’s recently been showing signs that one is coming sometimes hours before it happens. So far, it doesn’t seem to have affected her quality of life. She’s still the happy-go-lucky little lady she has always been.
Vera is still looking for a special family to adopt her. She is the sweetest little thing with “her” people and loves nothing more than to snuggle. She gets SO excited at meal time. She runs around like a little bunny hopping all over the place. If you’re interested in making Vera a permanent family member, please fill out an application! ... See MoreSee Less
